Depending on the job, there may be times where someone in the family will have to travel. In our case, it was Daddy when Emma was about 5. He had to go to Vegas for a week and Emma kept saying she was going to really miss him and was afraid he’d get lonely. This was her idea for Daddy, and Daddy had a fun idea for Emma.
EMMA’S LOVING IDEA
After thinking and thinking, Emma finally decided what she wanted to do for Daddy so he wouldn’t be lonely on his trip. She grabbed paper and crayons and made him a card. Then she gathered two of Daddy’s favorite stuffies that she had given him, Batman and Darth Vader.
After Daddy was done packing, we snuck the card and the two stuffies in his luggage on top of his clothes so it would be the first thing he sees. She wrote that she wanted them to keep him company, protect him and be there to snuggle with, since she’s not there.
When Daddy got to Vegas and opened his suitcase, it was such a great surprise. He loved that Emma sent him friends to stay in Vegas with him. That’s when he got a great idea to make her feel better while he was gone.
DADDY’S LOVING IDEA
Since Emma was really missing Daddy, he had the creative idea of taking his little friends around to enjoy Vegas. He took pictures of their adventures and would send them to us. Emma loved getting new pictures every day to see what they’d been up to. Then they would FaceTime at night to talk about the adventures.
Batman and Darth Vader at a Vegas fountain enjoying the weather.
Darth Vader and Batman at the Mandalay Bay Aquarium making a new friend.
Darth Vader and Batman hangin out with the Blue M&M.
Darth Vader and Batman ran into sweet Hello Kitty.
Darth Vader and Batman fighting crime with The Avengers.
Batman and Darth Vader having a much needed beer with dinner.
Batman and Darth Vader finally getting some rest.
Getting the pictures and being able to FaceTime Daddy kept Emma happy. She loved that her stuffies where keeping Daddy company and protecting him.
On the day he got back home, she made a big sign that said “Welcome Back Daddy. We missed you!” She held it up when we picked him up from the airport. He was so excited and ran to pick her up, give her a huge hug while spinning her around while she giggles.
Just these simple loving notions kept Emma and Daddy connected and happy throughout the week. If anyone in the family needs to travel, try to think of special simple ways of keeping them connected with the little ones at home. Anyone would love company, protection and snuggles.
Love,
Jeannie
