Spring is in the air and bunnies are everywhere. When it’s Springtime, you know there’s fuzzy cottontails, decorating and egg hunts coming up. Here are a few new ideas for spring crafts with the kiddos that will guarantee some fun, laughter and a hopping good time.
BUNNY IN JAR CANDY GIFT
This is an inexpensive gift we made for Emma’s teachers this year. I found everything at Target along with my inspiration for this treat.
Supplies from Target:
– Small pastel-colored mason jars (found in dollar bins)
– Bunny stickers (found in dollar bins)
– Spring color M&Ms
– Sharpie
1. Remove all lids and clean out all the jars with soapy water and let dry.
Pro Mom Tips: Run them all on the top rack of the dishwasher if you have a bunch of jars.
2. Fill each jar with your favorite M&Ms.
3. Attach the stickers to the top of lids to make it look like the bunny is burrowing down into the jar.
Pro Mom Tips: If you can’t find the stickers, you can make them by cutting out felt for the round bottom and feet, add a fuzzy tail and draw on the paw prints with marker. Stick them all together and to the top of the jar.
4. Add a message to the top of the lid with a sharpie.
5. Put all the lids back on and you are ready to give out your cute little bunny gifts.
THE BUNNY TRAIN
We made this cute craft train Emma was 3. She really wanted to build a wooden train and paint it in her favorite colors. We found an inexpensive wooden kit at Walmart. The rest of the supplies came from our pile of arts and crafts supplies. Emma still plays with her train.
Supplies:
– Wooden train kid (assembly required)
– Acrylic paint
– Stick on gems
1. Paint the wooden train any colors you want. Emma painted hers in lots of colors for Spring.
2. Add windows and cute bunnies looking out of the train.
3. Add sparkling gems as the finishing touch. It’s a great extra little detail that the girls will love.
SPECKLED EGG DECORATING KIT
The speckled egg decorating kit is a fun and easy way to decorate Easter eggs for toddlers to teens. This will get messy but that’s all part of the fun. We created these eggs when Emma was 3. She really enjoyed painting with sponges and watching the colors mix together.
Supplies:
– Speckled egg decorating kit (comes with packs of color dye, a palette, small sponges and the back of the box is your egg dryer)
– Hard-boiled eggs
– Wipes/wet paper towel
– Paper plate
– Scissors
1. Set out all the supplies.
2. Punch out all the holes on the back of the box.
3. Cut the tip off of each pack of dye and squeeze each color into a section of the pallete.
4. Place an egg on the paper plate.
5. Start sponging different paint colors onto the egg. Use a different sponge for each color and rub or dab on the dye to give your eggs a marble, speckled look.
6. Placed finished egg onto one of the holes on the back to dry.
7. Repeat steps until all eggs are done.
DESIGNING UNFINISHED EGGS
This year, I found unfinished eggs that you can buy at any store and then add your own design. We bought some colorful ones and let Emma use her creativity to decorate them however she wanted. My plan this year is to hide all the decorated eggs for Emma to hunt. Once she finds them all, she’ll get the big prize of her Easter basket. This is my lazy and cheap (aka brilliant) way of not having to fill a bunch of plastic eggs.
Supplies:
– Package of a dozen of unfinished eggs (we used ones that were already spring colors)
– Sharpies in fun colors
1. Draw a fun design onto the eggs and place each egg back into the carton when done.
GLOW IN THE DARK EGG HUNT
This is a perfect way to create an indoor egg hunt in case of rain. All you need are 2-inch glow sticks that the perfect size to put into plastic eggs.
Supplies:
– Plastic eggs (recycle all those plastic eggs you get every year)
– 2-inch glow sticks
– Basket of goodies
1. Activate the glow stick by bending it and causing it to crackle.
2. Put a glow stick into each plastic egg.
3. Repeat steps for all the eggs.
4. Make sure it’s somewhat dark when you hide the eggs and let the kids hunt for them. It’s fun to see them all excited when they see a glowing egg.
5. Once all eggs are found, the kids have earned their basket of goodies.
I hope these Easter ideas give you some fun activities to do with the kids this year, whether your egg hunting or just spending time with the family. Let us know if you get a chance to try any of these. Happy Easter!
Love,
Jeannie
