If my child wants to be a butterfly for the day, then I say, “sure… why not”. Part of growing up is letting them express themselves and gain new experiences. Every kid expresses themselves differently. The challenge is learning to help them along the way and trying not to limit their imagination or experiences. Let them wear wings, a cape or pajamas to the grocery store. It doesn’t hurt anyone, and they love it. I treasure those moments and they go away as fast as they grow up.

Not-So-Boring School Lunch Ideas for Picky Eaters
Summer has gone by so fast that I didn’t realize school was already starting. To me, that means time to make school lunches again. Do you have a picky eater or a kid who doesn’t like the food from the school cafeteria? Do you need a creative outlet or a way to get your kids to eat their lunch? I started making Emma’s school lunches in Kindergarten to make sure she would eat but also so she would have something to look forward to every day since she was a little scared to start a new school. I would think of fun ways to make her ordinary lunch a fun surprise. It eventually became a tradition to make her lunch every day and she never knows what’s in it. I’m in my 3rd year making her lunches and wanted to share some fun ideas. You’ll either hate me or love me for these easy-to-make school lunches. But first, let’s start with snacks!
A Call to Moms
It’s officially back to school season, which for so many means shopping for new clothes and school supplies, new adventures and maybe even a new start. I recently made it through my fourth back to school season and as a mom, it means something a little different. It’s a time when emotions collide. We’re exhausted from a summer full of coordinating camps and playdates to make sure our kids are entertained. We’ve successfully enforced the school reading and math homework. And yes, I mean the word ‘enforced’ here. Honestly, I don’t remember having work over the summer in the third grade, but I guess times they are a changin’. We’ve made sure all the supply lists are met, new clothes (or uniforms in my case) are ready and washed and we’ve taken them to every back-to-school event possible so that they’ve met the teacher, new friends, new classrooms…well you get the idea.READ MORE »
From Black Thumb to Garden Goddess… Well Kinda
Happy Day everyone! We’re having an unusual rainy few days in Texas. Which is sad for trying to go to the pool but absolutely great for my garden. If you happen to also live in Texas, you know how miserably hot the summer is. This year, anything under 95 has felt like a cool front. And it lasts straight until October. Which makes growing a lush, bountiful garden a feat of magic.READ MORE »
Don’t Postpone Your Mammogram Like I Did
Fair warning – this blog is about to get real. I recently took the plunge and experienced my first Mammogram. It ended up consisting of several additional appointments with me being worried, scared and then feeling lucky and grateful at the end. I want to share my personal experience from beginning to end in hopes it will shed light on the procedure of a Mammogram exam and what could happen afterwards.
Creating a Memorial Garden for a Beloved Pet
It’s still rather fresh in my mind and in my heart. My beloved Leo, fierce guard cat extraordinaire, total fluff ball and all around grumpy old man died fairly recently. We had him since college- almost 18 years. He moved states with us, welcomed William (whom he also watched over) with us and was an important member of the Bui family. He was old, but it was still a shock to lose him. It felt a little too early because it felt like we’d have him forever.

Looking for some new ideas for activities for the summer to entertain the kids? Last summer when I lost my job and was home with Emma ALL SUMMER LONG, I was in need of some inexpensive or free things to do. Finding Mindfulness in Each and Every Day
I recently had the pleasure of hearing some of the top female businesswomen in Dallas speak about mindfulness in the workplace. They were each at different places in their career and life, but there was a common thread that wove through each of their stories. Mindfulness really starts from within and only then can it have the power to transform your surroundings.
Summer Vacation Packing Essentials
Summertime. The living’s easy.
The temperature is up. School is out. And it’s time to get away. We’re a full month into summer and while the lazy days and summer camps are a great diversion for the kiddos, we parents also need a break. We are prepping to get away next week, so I’ve spent the last few days shopping for all the essentials for a beachy northeastern adventure. Here are the summer must-haves that’ll be in my suitcase.
