There will be a time when your little princess or prince grows up and asks for their own little space. Mine decided she needed her own desk and craft area when she inherited a desk from her grandmother,. The only place to put a desk and all her craft stuff was in a corner of her room. Surprisingly, everything fit perfectly into her new space. Here’s how to set up the perfect creative space that helps keep everything organized and will grown along with them.
Nice Desk Space
The desk is clean and simple with a large drawer for extra space. There are also drawer stops to prevent it from being pulled out too far. It’s a small, modern desk that fits easily in tight spaces at only 28 3/4 inches wide. There are holes for cables or cords to hide so you don’t have messy cables by your feet.
The desk is available at Ikea in dark brown or white. It’s easy to assemble. Just add a lamp and some desktop accessories to finish up the space.
Purple Chair
Emma loves this purple chair. She says it is sooooo comfortable. It’ll go up and down and all around. It’s a great size for her small desk and if you can’t tell, she loves pops of color.
This chair is from the Container Store, but it’s not longer being sold. Here’s a similar one from Target.
Colorful 12-Drawer Organizer
This is a great multi drawer organizer for paper, art and craft items. It’s not ideal for anything heavy but it’ll work for stickers, stamps, origami, colored paper, glitter, gems, cutouts and pads. She also stores her artwork and books she’s created. There are 12 colorful drawers that are easily removed to make them portable. The top surface is metal and good surface for books and a tray for unfinished crafts. There’s even room for a little trash can for the backs of stickers to be thrown into.
This organizer is on wheels so you want to roll it anywhere and is available at Target.
White 3-Shelf Rolling Cart
This is a great cart for heavier supplies. It’s small and easy to roll around. The top holds markers, pens and pencils and anything else she needs. We repurposed kid cups (the kind you get as a party favor) to organize all the supplies. The other two shelves store her crafts that are bigger or bulkier.
Here’s a similar cart from Target.
Wall Decor
There were only a few things Emma wanted on her wall. She wanted a calendar up so she can keep track of the days and what’s coming up. We went through the calendar so she could put in holidays, events and family birthdays for her to remember. Above her desk is a picture board for her to put pictures and notes on. I made this one a few years ago and it works nicely for the space. I will eventually write a blog on how to make your own picture board to fit any space.
Emma really enjoys her new personal craft space. She’s been creating books and all her valentine’s cards to family and friends at her desk. Even if your child isn’t into crafts, I bet they would still love a little space of their own to do homework, read, write or work on their computer. Or make one for yourself. Even adults can use a little space of their own. I know I sure do.
Love,
Jeannie
