Summertime. The living’s easy.
The temperature is up. School is out. And it’s time to get away. We’re a full month into summer and while the lazy days and summer camps are a great diversion for the kiddos, we parents also need a break. We are prepping to get away next week, so I’ve spent the last few days shopping for all the essentials for a beachy northeastern adventure. Here are the summer must-haves that’ll be in my suitcase.
Summer Dresses
In the past year, I’ve become a big fan of Loft. They have some really great sales on their already affordable on-trend pieces. You can always find something 40% off, which means there’s no reason you can’t buy more than one. That’s why I took home both of these fun, summer dresses.
Straw Panama Hat
I’ve been searching for a great summer hat for going on three years. I’ve worn the big floppy hat, small fedora and most recently a cheap Panama hat that wilted on the first trip to the pool. I probably expect too much out of a hat, but is it really too much to ask for it to keep its shape and look good even in the heat. I saw this one in the window and loved it immediately. I am a bit disappointed in some of the poor reviews it has, so I’ll have to reserve my judgment until later.
Sunnies
Yes, I know I have three perfectly good pairs already. But who can resist a new pair of sunnies, especially when they have chrome reflective lenses? These are the perfect solution for beachy days with no makeup. It’s my first time wearing the Smith brand. But I have to say I love how light-weight they are. Bonus – they also fall on the lower end of the price scale.
Swimwear
As much as I’d like to get away without having to mention the s-word on this list, it truly is unavoidable when going to the beach. So my tried and true favorite style this year (take note all you moms out there) is a high-waisted two-piece. They really are very flattering. I’ve bought two different black bottoms to match with my plethora of different tops.
Swim Cover-Up
Another great little gem from Loft. This piece isn’t originally meant to be a cover-up, but the oversized, lightweight fabric makes it a perfect choice. Total plus that it’s black stripes and will automatically match most of my (black) swimsuits.
Denim Boyfriend Shorts
Every year I have to get a new pair of denim shorts. They’re such an effortless go-to that literally go with everything. This year I was after a pair that was equal parts distressed and comfy. After trying about 40+ pairs on (thank goodness for perseverance), I instantly fell for this soft and incredibly easy-to-wear pair from one of my fav’s – Anthropologie. They were a bit of a splurge considering they are shorts. But the investment is totally worth it.
SugarFix Layered Necklace
The layered necklace is the look for this summer. But it’s incredibly hard to pull this off with individual necklaces. They always end up a big, tangled mess. Also, since we’re travelling, I wanted to leave any precious jewelry at home. I’ve heard far too many horror stories of lost necklaces and rings at the beach. So this pre-layered necklace from Target is perfect. It’ll look great on and I won’t have to worry if it gets lost.
Bamboo Crossbody Bag
I usually try to avoid whatever the “It Bag” of the season is. This one is just “it bag” adjacent enough that I don’t feel like it’s already been seen everywhere. Plus, you can’t beat the price and two-day shipping. I love this little bamboo bag. It’s unexpected and the perfect little bag for summer. And I’m pretty sure my stuff won’t fall out…
So there you have it. This is everything I’ll be taking with me. I hope to pack enough memories, fun and relaxation into our little vacation as possible. And I hope you’ll be able to enjoy your own little getaway soon.
Love,
Sara
