Valentine’s is already here. If you need a fun and easy craft to do with the kids, here’s an easy one for all ages. This is a very simple reverse paint idea that’s also fun for adults. Plus, you probably have all the supplies needed for this project around the house.
SUPPLIED NEEDED
- White canvas
- Painter’s tape
- Acrylic paint
- Paint brushes
- Paper plates
- Table cloth
- Cups of water
- Paper towels
- Pencils
PREP WORK
1. Make sure to cover your table surface with an old table cloth since the kids will be painting.
2. Give everyone their own canvas.
3. Take a pencil and lightly sketch a Valentine’s design that would be easy for them to outline with painter’s tape. Pro Mom Tip: For younger kids, you can just cut heart shapes out of the painter’s tape for them to stick on their canvas.
4. Using painter’s tape, start taping off the design over the parts they want white to show. Pro Mom Tip: The kids can rip the tape pieces to form what they want or even random shapes.
5. Make sure the painter’s tape is secured to the canvas by pressing them down.
6. Set out paper plate, cup of water, brushes and a folded paper towel for each person.
7. Let the kids choose their paint colors and pour onto their paper plate.
TIME TO PAINT
8. Start painting the canvas completely over the tape. Pro Mom Tip: For younger kids, they can always finger paint if that’s easier and more fun for them.
9. Use the water and a dry paper towel to clean brushes between colors. Pro Mom Tip: The paint can still mix on the canvas if colors touch before they dry.
10. Once the kids are done, set their canvas to the side to let them dry. Pro Mom Tip: Don’t forget to have the kids sign their painting.
THE REVEAL
11. Once the paint is dry, slowly pull the tape off their canvas. Pro Mom Tip: I find it easier to take an exacto knife and lightly cut around tape to make it easier to pull off.
12. As the kids pull each piece of tape off, they can see their masterpiece being revealed. Pro Mom Tip: Keep a grocery bag on the table for all the pulled off tape to go into.
13. Once all the tape has been removed, the kids will be excited to see their finished new piece of art.
This has always been one of my go to for an easy entertaining painting process with a beautiful work of art at the end. I hope this will become one of your go to art project as well.
